The idea of Rotisserie Chicken originated in 1985. I was in Cyprus visiting some friends to watch the Carnival parade. It was lunch time, so my friend brought a take out from the famous Diomedes restaurant. The meal was Rotisserie Chicken, Roasted Potatoes and salad. The rotisserie chicken was so good that someone in the group thought it would be a great idea to open a similar restaurant in Orlando, we all agreed, maybe it was the wine and beer!
The idea of opening a restaurant in Orlando was farfetched as we had no money and no knowledge on how to open and operate a restaurant. It was an intriguing and entertaining idea and we had fun discussing it but it was just that.
Fast forward 2 years, I was back in Orlando looking for a job. I couldn’t find any in my field of Computer Science so, I started working at a restaurant my Future Partner Gus Maltabes had just opened. I worked for Gus while I was a student at UCF and had fun working together. I made it clear to him this was only temporary job until I find a job in my field. Few months later we were talking about opening a restaurant together.
Ofcourse , during our conversations ,the idea of rotisserie chicken came up. Gus found the idea interesting but risky. To minimize the risk a concept was developed that combined my ideas of Rotisserie Chicken and Gus’s proven successful sandwich/ deli restaurant.
The idea worked ! we were packed from day one and continued to be busy week after week and month after month. As the years passed, we added many items that customers asked and expected and removed some to come to today’s Athena Roasted Chicken. Our dedication to simple good old fashion principles like Quality, Service and Value proved to be a recipe for success.
I want to thank our loyal customers of Maitland, Winter Park and surrounding areas that supported us through the years and continue to do so today. We have customers that first came when we opened and we have new customers that just found out about us. We thank you All.
